The areas of origin

The production area for Grana Padano PDO extends throughout Northern Italy and generally coincides with the territories of the Po Valley region north of the Po river. It covers 5 regions from Piedmont to Veneto and down to Emilia Romagna. In Veneto, the area of origin covers 6 valley provinces (thus excluding Belluno), even if more than 95% of the production is concentrated in the provinces of Vicenza, Verona and Padua.

The production area for Parmigiano-Reggiano is fairly restricted: it includes the provinces of Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena and parts of the provinces of Mantua and Bologna between the Po and Reno rivers. Both the production of milk and the transformation into cheese and its portioning are done in this area.

Piave cheese is only produced in the province of Belluno, located in the northernmost part of the Veneto region and wedged between Trentino Alto Adige and Friuli. The legendary Piave river flows through this area dominated by the famous and suggestive Dolomite mountains: from its source on Mount Peralba in the northernmost part of the province, passing through Cadore and Feltrino until it meets the plain at the foothills of the
Veneto Alps.

Asiago is a typical cheese produced in an area which stretches from the meadows of the Po Valley to the Alpine pastures of the Asiago plateau and Trentino. The milk is collected and the Asiago PDO cheese is produced in four provinces: the entire Vicenza and Trento area and a small part of the provinces of Padua and Treviso.

The production area for Montasio cheese covers two regions:

- Friuli Venezia Giulia: the entire territory of the provinces of Udine, Pordenone, Gorizia and Trieste
- Veneto: the entire territory of the provinces of Treviso and Belluno and part of the provinces of Venice and Padova

Monte Veronese is a mountain cheese that comes from the foothills of the Alps surrounding the city of Verona. It’s a territory of the Lessinia mountain region with lush pastures that extends through many areas of the northern part of Verona province.
